Getting Results? Discipline in Vocal/Talent Prep

Isn’t it amazing when you see a performer, or anyone on stage display glorious feats! I think of televisions shows like America's Got Talent or The Voice. Also I think of American Idol. It seems like these singers and artists are welcomed into our living rooms every week and effortlessly sing and dance for our enjoyment. I hate to burst your bubble, but countless hours go into preparation of that performance.
There’s warm-ups, lyric memorization, choreography, individual and band practice just to name a few. On top of all that, the trainer or coach may give constructive criticisms that will take the song or show to the next level.
In fact, we take many of our daily activities for granted like walking or reading. Remember back when you where in elementary or prep school. You had to be taught to read and write. As a baby you were pushed to crawl and then propped up in walkers to develop a sense of balance until you could walk on your own.
"No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening - it is painful, but afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way." Hebrews 12:11 (NLT), The Bible
Believe it or not, much of our abilities came through a guided process. As you go through your day, develop new practices to accomplish your goals.
Use these tips to reach your goals
Start small. Memorize a verse at a time. Sing the chorus while washing dishes.
Keep singing. "Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready." If you hear a funny ringtone, try imitating it several times. Be consistent.
Read a letter out loud. This helps you develop better diction and pronunciation skills.
Keep it fun. Put on karaoke or a kid's movie with music and sing along.
Test yourself. Can you write out song lyrics from memory?
Remember you can achieve this. This is your gift. This is your talent. This is your ability. You have greatness inside that only you can pull out!
See you on stage!
