Proper Breathing for Singing,, Theatrical Performace,-

Let’s face it. Without inhaling, you can’t use your vocal instrument. In other words, you won’t be able to sing. There are different capacities of air that is needed to sing different songs. Some require a little and some require a lot. Identify and practice them both. Do your best not to develop incorrect habits. They will throw off much of your vocal abilities. A domino effect can then ensue.

Breathing:

-should be natural and intuitive. You can’t sing if don’t have enough air.

-promotes relaxation

Breathing Pointers:

Keep an expanded chest with great posture.

Breath through your mouth.

Exercise #1 Get relaxed"

-Inhale while you raise your arms in the air.

-Exhlale while you then lower, keep an expand chest.

Exercise #2 "The deep breath… "

Inhale ALL the air in the room into your lungs. Count out loud to 30 or above at a mid to rapid tempo. As you count, you are releasing the air. You should be able to count to 30 minimum in one breath.

Also try these different breaths

Sleeper breath -like lying down

Silent (not forced at all)

Yawn (inhale)/Sigh (exhale)

Gasp (build quick reflex in breathing)

Pant (faster gasps, very rapid) improves vibrato and response time Controlled “S” (like releasing air from a tire)

Remember to breath....

Normally, we breath through our nose and mouth.

Get in the habit of mouth breathing while singing.

These exercises should be done from the mouth.
